Nifty Stories

Nifty Erotic Stories Archive. Erotic literature is the oldest form of smut known to mankind. It was pornography before pornography was invented. Dating back to the days of ancient Greece, epic erotic poetry was primarily used for how people got their fap on. Of course, this was in between gay-on-gay ass-on-ass sex (look it up, it was a totally common practice in ancient Greece).
But erotic lite has survived the ages and is still a popular form of smut today. Yes, believe it or not, despite the billions and billions of images of the hottest women in the world being fucked in every possible way at the click of a mouse, there are still people who prefer to read pornography.
And I admire their dedication to literature. I am a writer, but I don't read erotic books for excitement. But I would guess that most readers of erotic lit are either female or gay. I don't see how straight men can be intoxicated by the language of flowers without some visual aid. What can I say. We are a bunch of illiterate pigs, true.
But I can definitely understand the appeal of erotic lit. There is something sensual about really good writing. I have read books and stories that made me hard before (of course, I then immediately put the book down, opened Porn Hub, and fapped myself to adulthood). But reading something to get an orgasm. I don't know. I just don't see it happening for me. But I am open minded and may try it someday.
There are hundreds of sites and resources out there for sapiosexual-leaning, literature-leaning horndogs to choose from. Many of them have a sort of forum style, community oriented feel. Many of them allow users to post and publish their own work. However, not many have been around as long as Nifty.org. Nor have many (if any) earned the same level of respect or scholarly consideration.
Longevity, Community, and Productivity
Nifty is an archive of erotic fiction that has been around since 1992. Am I the only one who thinks that's crazy, because back in 1992 I didn't even know there was a website, let alone a porn site. According to the banner on the site's home page, there are "over 264,000 stories by more than 15,000 authors," and the archive is quite massive. This is already a tremendous amount of erotic literature. And the best part. It's all 100% free.
Not only is this site huge, but it is well designed (for an erotic lit site). I don't know what it is, but it seems like the designers of erotic sites go to great lengths to create an online experience that is fun, easy to use, and aesthetically pleasing. Many similar sites I've been to are terrible to look at and even more difficult to navigate. But I don't hate Nifty's design.
I mean, it could be better. Without a doubt. But it's far from the worst erotic-lite site design I've ever seen. It's simple and ...... The wallpaper-style background is a bit dated, and then again, the site's menu bar has a "Archives" (drop-down. Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Bestiality [heh...]. , Information, Best of Nifty, Journal Entries, and several featured authors), New Stories, Authors, Donations, and a search bar. Curiously, Nifty has a featured section for stories about fucking dogs and such, but I have yet to find anything I enjoy in heteroerotica. I guess straight white male writers are really dead.
I like that Nifty is completely ad-free. I think the donation model is great for sites like this and I'm very happy to see Nifty taking full advantage of it. I hate ads, especially unwanted ones, so I applaud the folks at Nifty for finding an alternative way to keep the site going for so many years.
Keep the Reader updated, Nifty!
But, to digress for a moment, what I don't like about Nifty is the actual format of the stories. I know I talked at length earlier about how Nifty's site design is superior to other community-oriented porn sites I've seen. But when I saw the actual story display, I wanted to withdraw that praise.
This is terrible. It looks like someone copied and pasted a .txt file and clicked "publish." The formatting is hardly uniform. It is boring. There are no pages. From a site design standpoint, it's just sloppy and, frankly, a bit corny. But this is to be expected when it comes to the Erotic Light site. One wonders why those who create and maintain such sites cannot give a little more thought to the main event, erotica.
Does no one value a pleasant reading experience? Why do all these sites just throw plain text on a white background and be done with it? There are so many better ways to display text, and to see crap like this just boggles the mind. It looks cheap, amateurish, and rushed. I strongly encourage the Nifty people to use some of the donation money to develop a quality e-reader component for their site. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just something other than randomly formatted text on a white page.
It needs some updating, but overall it's a good site.
Other than that, I like what Nifty is doing overall. There is a wealth of reading material, a solid platform for erotica writers (especially those from underrepresented communities) to showcase their work, and a very active and engaged community of writers and readers. If you are looking for hetero smut, Nifty is probably not the place for you. But come on, snowflake, almost every site on the Internet is for you.
I wish Nifty would introduce a better reader. I also think it would be great to provide a way for writers to get feedback, for example in the comments section of stories. We writers are always looking to improve, so being able to read feedback from readers would be great.
