Site History

The name "SauceNAO" comes from the slang "Need to know the source of this Now." and has recently become very popular, especially on forums, image boards, and other related sites. I think this name is a perfect match.

As for the site, Xamayon was responsible for its design and implementation, and the main search functionality was first unveiled in October 2008. The first index consisted of about 20,000 magazine pages and used a modified version of the engine developed by piespy for the IQDB project. Later, due to increased load and more images, a more scalable engine was developed independently and deployed in 2012 to replace the IQDB backend. Since then, SauceNAO has grown significantly and now indexes over 1 billion images from a variety of sources including web services, animation, movies, TV shows, and more.

SauceNAO is not yet fully developed and is in a fairly unfinished state. The site is in constant need of revision, coverage is constantly being expanded, and new search technologies are constantly being experimented with.

Site Design and Navigation

Believe me when I say that there is nothing noteworthy about the site design. That's because it basically features a black background and some sorting features, nothing more. Well, if you ask me, it feels like a shitty, hollow place, and it will take some time to get used to because there is no such thing as straightforward here. What I like about this site.

The layout of the site is too plain and uninteresting for my taste, and it is by no means easy to use, as it takes a while to get used to. Also, the blog section is basically annoying and I struggle to find anything of interest there. Additionally, to my disappointment, the updates they brag about are nowhere to be found.
